Transforming Education through European Projects: The L.G.P.W. Project
Introduction
The L.G.P.W. Project (Learning through Projects in a Global World) has been an ambitious and successful initiative that has contributed to transforming the educational methodology at IES Unamuno BHI and has had a significant impact on the involved partners. Over three years of collaborative work, this project has surpassed its initial objectives and has left a lasting impression on the educational community.
Objectives
The main goal of the L.G.P.W. Project was to foster methodological innovation and promote learning through European projects. To achieve this, the project aimed to enhance the competencies of teachers, students, families, and non-teaching staff, preparing them to face the challenges of a globalized world through their participation in European projects.
Activities
The project has undertaken a wide variety of activities to accomplish its goals. Structured courses of six days on active methodologies, European project management, and Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) were organized in different European cities such as Florence, Soverato, and Dublin. Additionally, observation and teaching visits were promoted in partner educational institutions in Germany, Greece, and Denmark, allowing for the exchange of experiences and best practices among international colleagues.
Furthermore, eTwinning projects were designed and managed with European partners, resulting in the achievement of three national quality labels and three European quality labels, as well as national eTwinning awards in Spain and Belgium.
Results
The results of the L.G.P.W. Project have been even more successful than initially anticipated. The capacity for innovative pedagogy was strengthened, and the linguistic and digital competencies of the teaching staff were improved. Teachers adopted new methodologies such as Project-Based Learning, Content and Language Integrated Learning, and Transversal Education.
The Erasmus+ accreditation obtained by IES Miguel de Unamuno BHI in Bilbao stands out as evidence of the excellence in managing high-quality educational projects and promoting international cooperation.
Impact
The impact of the L.G.P.W. Project has been felt at the local, regional, national, and international levels. Locally, the educational community has been enriched by the methodological renewal through internationalization and has reinforced its multicultural and multilingual competencies.
Regionally, IES Unamuno has become a reference for other educational institutions in the application of active methodologies in European project-based learning. Moreover, the school has actively collaborated with the Directorate of Teacher Support Centers of the Basque Government to disseminate best practices and organize eTwinning and Erasmus+ dissemination events.
At the national and international levels, the European partners have enriched their pedagogical approach through collaboration in the project. The Erasmus+ coordinator has advised other institutions and promoted the program in events showcasing best practices.
Conclusion
The L.G.P.W. Project has been an enriching experience that has significantly contributed to transforming education at IES Unamuno and has strengthened cooperation and collaboration at the European level. With exceptional results and lasting impact, this project has demonstrated the power of internationalization and methodological innovation to drive learning and prepare participants to face the challenges of a globalized world.
